Although disillusioned with her marriage and prescribed social role living as a woman in the 19th century, the story’s protagonist, Lidian, remains silent and devoted. But when Henry David Thoreau arrives to live with the family, his much needed help with the children and household tasks is a welcome relief for Mrs. Emerson.
And soon the two become close.
You’ll have to read this work of historical fiction to find out how Belding Brown explores the “rumored” relationship between Thoreau and Lidian.
And you will not be disappointed. Mr. Emerson’s Wife is well-researched, well-structured, and beautifully written. Truly a page turner.
